Sargent & Lundy Participates in ASME’s Inaugural Nuclear Industry Conference

Maury Pressburger co-chairs sessions on advanced reactor technologies and developments


March 22, 2023 – Sargent & Lundy participated in the first Conference for Advanced Reactor Deployment hosted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers on February 22-23 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. This conference focused on supporting industry efforts toward the advancement of new nuclear technologies and their deployment in the United States and globally. Participants from around the world included regulators, national labs, reactor developers, industrial companies, news organizations, and universities.

Maury Pressburger - Sargent & LundySargent & Lundy’s Maury Pressburger, a senior project manager, was a conference organizer and session moderator. Pressburger, who is also vice chair of the ASME Board on Nuclear Codes and Standards, co-chaired two sessions in the Reactor Technologies track with Dr. Guoqiang Wang from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Attended by over 150 conference participants, the two Reactor Technologies sessions included panel and round table discussions examining the various nuclear reactor, advanced fuel, and fuel reprocessing technologies, as well as their challenges and deployment timings. Joining Sargent & Lundy and PNNL in these discussions were representatives from NuScale Power, X-energy, Dow, Curio, Oklo, Kairos Power, TerraPower, Framatome, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Electric Power Research Institute, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
