May 15, 2023 – The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations is hosting its annual Digital Instrumentation & Controls Workshop May 16-18 in Atlanta. On May 16 at 11:15 a.m. EDT, we invite practitioners, supervisors, and managers involved in digital system upgrades, modifications, and life cycle management to join Sargent & Lundy’s Rick Paese for a presentation on main control room modernization efforts.Rick Paese Portrait

In their presentation, Paese and his co-presenter, Ray Herb from Southern Nuclear, will examine the modernization efforts currently underway for Southern Nuclear’s reactor fleet and will illustrate how control room modernization is necessary to support economic sustainability for the U.S. nuclear fleet. In addition to discussing the value proposition of modernizing the control room as part of license renewal, the presentation will explain how control room modernization ensures the return on investment for digital I&C upgrades is maximized and operations, maintenance, and data management are optimized.

INPO’s annual workshop provides utilities a forum to share information on digital upgrades. Topics covered over the course of the workshop will range from innovative projects to industry activities from the Nuclear Energy Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Typical presenters include utility personnel, NEI, EPRI, and select vendors.

INPO’s mission is to promote the highest levels of safety and reliability in the operation of commercial nuclear plants.
