NYPA’s Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project Commences in November

Project will assess green hydrogen’s potential role in displacing fossil fuels from power generation

October 29, 2021 – The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will begin the Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project at their Brentwood Power Station on Long Island in November. The demonstration project will take place over 6-8 weeks and examine the potential use of blending green hydrogen with natural gas to generate power at the power station. Sargent & Lundy will act as the engineer of record for the project and provide engineering oversight and safety reviews.

The results of this first-of-its-kind project will be shared with the industry to inform strategies to combat climate change and advance New York State’s Climate Act goal to reduce carbon emissions 85% by 2050.
