October 29, 2021 – The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will begin the Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project at their Brentwood Power Station on Long Island in November. The demonstration project will take place over 6-8 weeks and examine the potential use of blending green hydrogen with natural gas to generate power at the power station. Sargent & Lundy will act as the engineer of record for the project and provide engineering oversight and safety reviews.
The results of this first-of-its-kind project will be shared with the industry to inform strategies to combat climate change and advance New York State’s Climate Act goal to reduce carbon emissions 85% by 2050.

Other partners collaborating on the project include GE, EPRI, Airgas (an Air Liquide company), and Fresh Meadow Power. Representatives from the project partner organizations were on site in Brentwood this week to view progress on plant readiness to begin the project.
