Sargent & Lundy Publishes 2020 Sustainability Report

The report outlines the firm’s ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices

February 19, 2021 – Sargent & Lundy released its 2020 sustainability report summarizing the firm’s commitment, actions, and achievements toward sustainable business operations.

Sargent & Lundy is committed to best practices in sustainability and has engaged in year-round focus on the impact of sustainability efforts – to include not only the environment, but also employees, clients, suppliers, communities, and the firm itself.

Sargent & Lundy’s 2020 Sustainability Report specifies actions and achievements in seven categories: governance, managing and communicating performance, offices, transportation and fuel consumption, water utilization, materials and supply chain, waste and cleaning, stakeholder engagement, and process improvement.

A primary achievement in 2020 was the appointment of the firm’s inaugural Sustainability Advisory Council (SAC), whose members come from varying roles from all business groups across the company. They are charged with implementing the sustainability plan and assessing its progress throughout the year.

The firm continued its success integrating sustainability into its workplace culture, particularly in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic. The distribution of web-based video and audio-conferencing tools helped support employees working remotely. By working from home, employees had an impact on emissions from vehicles or public transportation during commutes, usage of paper and printers, office ventilation and electricity, office waste removal, and the overall reduction of office purchases.

At office locations where stay-at-home orders were not in place or had been lifted, Sargent & Lundy proactively worked with building management to establish protocols and cleaning requirements to provide healthier environments. The SAC committees prepared to commence work on developing policies for recycling of coffee K-cups, electricity usage, office desk phones, paper usage, physical space utilization, sustainable transportation, and food sources.
