Sargent & Lundy Participates in Management, Engineering, and Operations Conference

Firm to share nuclear expertise and knowledge in panel and presentation


May 23, 2023 – Sargent & Lundy is participating in Rocky Mountain Electrical League’s Spring Management, Engineering, and Operations Conference taking place May 22-24 in Kansas City, Missouri. Senior Vice President and Project Directors Alan Wilson and Kevin Huberty will showcase the firm’s nuclear power expertise in a panel and breakout session.

Wilson will be a panelist for, “Managing Public Perception of Fossil & Nuclear Facilities,” from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. CDT on May 23. Highlights of the discussion include:

  • Challenges faced by the industry in maintaining public trust and support, as well as strategies and tactics used to improve public perception.
  • Insights and real-world examples on how to address concerns related to nuclear and fossil energy sources, safety, environmental impact, and sustainability, while balancing the challenge of ensuring reliable and affordable energy for communities.
  • The importance of effective communication and transparency in shaping public opinion and the potential consequences if public perception continues to be negative.

Kevin Huberty | Sargent & LundyHuberty will present, “Small Modular Reactor Technologies & Updates,” from 1:50 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. CDT on May 23. The presentation will provide an overview of SMRs for a non-nuclear power audience, along with different SMR and advanced reactor technologies, leading suppliers, and current deployment plans in the U.S. and internationally. He will also discuss Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing requirements, typical SMR project timeline, coal-to-nuclear, and construction modularization techniques.
