July 31, 2018 - Sargent & Lundy has reached an agreement with SNC-Lavalin to support the completion of Bellefonte Unit 1 Nuclear Generating Station in Hollywood, Alabama. Work is expected to start as soon as Nuclear Development LLC closes its acquisition of the Alabama facility later this year.
SNC-Lavalin, which has signed a Letter of Agreement with Nuclear Development LLC to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services to complete Bellefonte Unit 1, will engage Sargent & Lundy as needed for this multi-year project based on its in-depth nuclear power expertise and proven record in delivering successful projects.
"We are looking forward to working with SNC-Lavalin and Nuclear Development to bring Bellefonte Unit 1 to successful operation," said Sargent & Lundy Executive Vice President and Director of Nuclear Power Delfo Bianchini. "Once finished, Bellefonte will be a valuable addition to the region's clean energy supply."
The possible services to be provided by Sargent & Lundy for this project include completion of engineering and design for various plant systems, structures, and programs. The engineering and design work would involve preparation of design changes to replace missing, obsolete and degraded equipment and to ensure systems, structures and components meet all regulatory requirements. Sargent & Lundy may also provide procurement and licensing support as well as field engineering support during construction and startup.
For more than 60 years Sargent & Lundy has been continuously involved in designing successive generations of new nuclear power stations and supporting operating nuclear plants. The firm is currently providing engineering and related services to more than 100 operating nuclear units as well as engaged in supporting multiple new nuclear power plants under design and construction.
