August 6, 2019 — Sargent & Lundy recently received an award for outstanding service from the Society of Women Engineers Chicago Regional Section (SWE-CRS). The award was presented at SWE-CRS’ Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet. Additionally, the firm sponsored a SWE-CRS scholarship and had the opportunity to present it to the recipient at the event.
The outstanding service award is reflective of Sargent & Lundy’s continued involvement in SWE-CRS. The Sargent & Lundy Women's Professional Network regularly participates in SWE-CRS events throughout the Chicagoland area. Employees have participated in affiliated panel discussions and, most recently, Sargent & Lundy hosted and helped organize a SWE-CRS professional development workshop.
The awards banquet also celebrated SWE-CRS scholarship winners. Sargent & Lundy was pleased to sponsor a $1,500 scholarship awarded to Kayla Benson, a recent graduate from Evergreen Park Community High School. She plans to study environmental engineering at Colorado School of Mines this fall. In the scholarship letters of recommendation, Benson was described by teachers as passionate, curious, and dedicated.
Sargent & Lundy’s Sandra Jannetty, Elizabeth Mattson, and Carmann Matherne represented the firm at the event, where they also had the opportunity to meet with the scholarship recipient.
“The most exciting part of the banquet was meeting Kayla in person,” said Mattson. “Her excitement and enthusiasm for her future in engineering and her gratitude for the scholarship was tangible and contagious.”
Sargent & Lundy is committed to empowering women in engineering through its involvement in SWE and supports a variety of efforts with time, funding, and resources to engage and inspire the next generation of engineers.
