Feb. 7, 2024 – At the recent POWERGEN International conference, Sargent & Lundy’s Kevin Huberty provided an overview of the benefits of nuclear power along with insights into the next generation of small modular reactors, advanced reactors, and microreactors that are expected to revolutionize the industry. Huberty’s presentation was featured in an article, “POWERGEN 2024: An Overview of Nuclear, SMR Technology,” published by Turbomachinery International Magazine on January 26.
In his presentation, Huberty outlined nuclear power’s reliability, safety, and flexibility in meeting increasing energy demands and supplementing the variability of renewable power sources as reasons behind its renewed interest. Huberty was among Sargent & Lundy’s team of leading industry authorities delivering presentations and serving on panels at this year’s POWERGEN exhibition and summit in New Orleans.
The theme for the POWERGEN conference was Destination 2050 and focused on the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. Along with Huberty, the conference featured presentations from Kevin Lauzze, Julianna Crumlish, Matthew Heermann, and Marc Prasse. Danielle Flagg served as a conference committee chairperson and led the development of the carbon capture and emissions control track.
