Sargent & Lundy Supports ACE Mentor Chicago Program

Helping high school students gain a strong foundation for careers in architecture, construction, and engineering

May 17, 2018 - More than 200 area high school students recently came together to present design projects—the culmination of months of work—for the ACE Mentor Chicago program. For its mentor program, ACE Chicago matches teams of high school students with mentors from professional architecture, construction, and engineering (A/C/E) firms to help students learn about careers in A/C/E and related professions.

The ACE Mentor Chicago program facilitates teams of 25-30 students from across Chicago and the surrounding area to meet once a week in the Chicago offices of their mentor firms. Together with their mentors, the teams of students spend October through March working on a design project. The design projects are then presented at a spring showcase. For this year’s event, Sargent & Lundy proudly supported Mentor Team 1, along with architecture firm Stantec and construction firm Gilbane.

The ACE Mentor Chicago program uses a variety of engaged learning approaches to involve students in activities that help them build skills they can carry over to school subjects, such as graphic design, art, math and engineering. At the same time, these activities give them a strong foundation on which to base future careers. Sargent & Lundy has been an ardent supporter of the program since 2012.
