Sargent & Lundy Participating in CIGRE Global Industry Conference

Kunhal Parikh participates in webinar on high temperature conductor sensitivities associated with transmission line design

September 1, 2020 - Power industry professionals around the globe are participating in an all-digital industry conference hosted by CIGRE through September 3. Sargent & Lundy is playing a key role in this live event.

CIGRE is hosting its signature industry conference, CIGRE e-session 2020, to share power system expertise. The global membership organization of thousands of power experts from over 90 countries is offering 83 sessions (webinars) during this event so that members and non-members can customize their own knowledge-sharing experience.

Sargent & Lundy’s Kunhal Parikh will be participating in the live webinar format, and discussing the Cigre accepted paper, Sensitivity Effects of High Temperature Overhead Conductors to Line Rating Variables, on Thursday, September 3, at 1:05 p.m. CST. The topic discusses dynamic line ratings and sensitivities effect for high-temperature conductors, which many utilities, developers, and renewable companies are considering in order to optimize line design, improve power transfer and/or defer costs with network upgrades.

Parikh’s expertise will assist those designing transmission lines on mitigating fires, re-utilizing old transmission lines, assessing environmental impact, and applying current standards and guidelines to new conductors. The findings indicate that current standards do not address high temperature conductors in an effective manner, and that this topic needs to be further addressed by an industry study group.
