Sargent & Lundy Joins DOE Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meetings

Firm demonstrates expertise in design of nuclear integrated hydrogen facilities

June 8, 2023 – Sargent & Lundy is participating in the Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting for the Department of Energy Hydrogen Program, taking place June 5-8 in Washington, D.C. Alan Wilson, a senior vice president for the firm, will conduct a presentation on the hydrogen research Sargent & Lundy completed for Idaho National Laboratory in 2022.

Wilson will present, “Preconceptual Design of Thermal and Electrical Power Interfaces for Hydrogen Production,” from 11:30 a.m. – noon EDT on June 8. Highlights of the discussion include:Alan Wilson |Sargent & Lundy

  • A review of the pre-conceptual integrated plant designs for 100-MW and 500-MW nuclear-integrated hydrogen facilities.
  • Licensing considerations for nuclear-integrated hydrogen production.
  • The possibilities of large-scale thermal extraction from nuclear power plants.

The AMR allows representatives from projects funded by DOE’s Hydrogen Program to present their work for merit review. This process facilitates a critical review of the research and development of the projects and provides an opportunity for researchers, government representatives, and other stakeholders to network. The annual event showcases DOE’s hydrogen and fuel cell portfolio and how it is working to address climate and clean energy priorities effectively and equitably.

Sargent & Lundy’s hydrogen experience encompasses years of research and industrial applications. The hydrogen industry is rapidly evolving as new technologies and applications emerge, and opportunities such as the AMR allow the firm to showcase and socialize solutions for the growing decarbonization industry’s challenges.
