Sargent & Lundy Execs Sponsor University of Illinois’s New Engineering Lab

Firm’s financial support contributed to major on-campus renovations

November 2, 2022 – In 2018, Sargent & Lundy executives donated $500,000 toward a major renovation effort of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s (UIUC) Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering Building (MEB). The renovation is now complete, and the new state-of-the-art heat transfer laboratory has been named after Sargent & Lundy as a gesture of gratitude.

The lab facilities are ready for mechanical science and engineering (MechSE) students learning about heat exchangers, cooling fins, and other related heat transfer components and equipment, all important aspects to the work the firm performs.

The MEB renovation includes a 25,000-square foot addition to the building, a 3,000-square foot space increase on the north end, and more than 60,000 square feet of existing space redesigned to enhance the overall experience of the MechSE community to learn, innovate, and further contribute to the engineering industry.

As a Chicago-based company since 1891, Sargent & Lundy has proudly supported many UIUC initiatives and recruited top talent from the university throughout its history. Sargent & Lundy looks forward to continuing its strong relationship with the University of Illinois, attracting job- and internship-seeking students, and empowering others to learn more about STEM topics as they relate to improving the world around us.

Sargent & Lundy values diverse perspectives, encourages professional growth, and is committed to providing a work community where people thrive. Investing in people is one of the firm’s core principles to support business growth and promote industry leadership. We encourage job seekers to explore our career opportunities and make a difference in our power and energy future.
